inDecember’s theme has been indoors and Christmas is right around the corner so I’m sharing Christmas trees that are indoors.
The one above reminds me of the Colorforms I’d get as a child.
Who says you should only have one tree in a room?

inIf we were having coffee, I’d really need it because I’ve been exhausted. Because I did yesterday off as a personal day I’ve caught up on my rest.
Yesterday I interviewed a case manager at Daybreak, an agency that helps people who’re homeless. I volunteer by writing interviews for their email newsletter. Jacki has been especially successful in getting a lot of people into a home. She’s great with the paperwork in the communication that shows her respect for all the people she works with.
And I got to have lunch with my cousin, which has been a rarity since I work Monday through Friday now. I need to figure out how to get a high paying part-time job.
After lunch visited two social services agencies as part of my service on my township’s human services commission. These agencies have applied for grants. Each of us on the commission must interview 4 agencies to vet them. Life Span provides legal assistance, counseling and career development for victims of domestic violence and the Josselyn Center provides treatment to people with psychological problems. Both were impressive agencies, however, this year the money requested far exceeds what we have to give. It’ll be hard to decide.
On Monday, I went to my cookbook club. This month’s books were Snacks for Dinner and I Dream of Dinner. I only checked out the second book and wasn’t thrilled with it, so I just wound up making Nanaimo bars, which were a huge hit. Everyone made different things, and I really loved lemon pasta dish, butternut cider soup, hazelnut chocolate cups, citrus-mustard asparagus, and jicama “fries.” Everyone should have a cookbook club at their Public Library. It’s so much fun.
I missed the link party last week, so here are some pictures of the Pabst Mansion that I visited last week.

If we were having coffee I’d say that yesterday I went with a friend to the Pabst Mansion to see all their Christmas decorations. Boy, was I’ve blown away. I’ve seen Christmas decorations at the Drieshaus Museum and the Glessner House at Christmas and they’re exquisite, but the Pabst Museum outshines both.
Different designers worked on each room. Every year it’s different. A designer cannot do the same room two years in a row.
Now I want to go back every year.
A month ago I emailed the woman who hired me as a library assistant at a local school district. The trouble is when I’m at the elementary school I don’t have a bathroom break all morning. It’s a lot like working in a factory with one 15 minute session of students after another. In which time they’re supposed to get their library card, return their books and check out a new one. Sometimes students have questions they take a bit to answer, but there really isn’t time for that. When I’m hoping for is one break around 10 o’clock to do some shelving and run to the bathroom.
I’ve just gotten the runaround. The woman who hired me is the assistant superintendent. She asked the two, count ‘em two principals to contact me. I waited to weeks and after hearing nothing emailed them both. One I had never met in the other. I had no idea where his office was. Another two weeks went by and I heard nothing. I did see the Assistance superintendent the week before last and she asked about this. We set up a meeting for last Wednesday. In the meantime, on Monday, one of the principals did call me and wanted to meet right away.
These two meetings basically what I heard was how hard it is to make a schedule and how this particular schedule doesn’t work for any of the specialists. Moreover a lot of people don’t have a chance to go to the bathroom. The reason? This is a school. I have worked at schools before and know how they work. What I’m asking for is part of my state’s labor law. I was told that if the librarian I report to once she can move one of the morning Book check out times to the afternoon, but she has to get permission from whichever teacher is impacted. Since the afternoon is almost empty with only one group of students that seems like a good solution . The trouble is this librarian is very controlling and set in her ways. She doesn’t want to be bothered.
Ugh.
That’s my job hunting has been ramped up. They never made me sign a contract or gave me any kind of faculty handbook. Since the assistant principal left the junior high, I guess anyone can leave. I’m looking for something not in K – 12 education. Period. It’s amazing how many jobs are out there for teachers to start in January.
